Core Facilities

The Office for Research provides centralized support to NU Core Facilities, which offer state-of-the-art infrastructure and services for research.

Northwestern’s core facilities lower barriers and accelerate discovery. By combining expert staff, advanced technologies, and hands-on training, our cores enable researchers to carry projects from early exploration through real-world application. From genomics consultation, staff-assisted animal studies, and advanced microscopy training to device fabrication in NUFab and end-to-end chemical and biological translation across IMSERC, HTA screening, in vivo testing, and patient studies, the core ecosystem supports the full arc of research.

Equally important, these facilities power interdisciplinary work at scale, making complex, collaborative studies possible. Together, Northwestern’s core facilities help researchers move faster, work across boundaries, and turn discovery into impact.

Award Winning Service Excellence

Core Facilities Administration (CFA) sets the standards for excellence and helps cores define their own paths for sustainability, outstanding technical service, innovation, and support for strategic initiatives.

Scientific Advancement Through Shared Resources

NUcore Platform

NUCore is Northwestern University’s centralized online system for accessing shared research facilities. It allows researchers to request services, reserve instruments, track usage, and manage billing across all University core facilities through a single, consistent platform. By simplifying access and improving transparency, NUCore helps researchers spend less time on administration and more time on discovery.
