Eric J. Perreault, Vice President for Research
Eric J. Perreault is a scientist and senior leader who was named Northwestern’s vice president for research on Sept. 15, 2023. A biomedical engineer whose research focuses on understanding the neural and biomechanical factors involved in the control of multi-joint movement, and how these factors are modified following injury or disease, Dr. Perreault holds appointments in the McCormick School of Engineering, the Feinberg School of Medicine and the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. His innovative work has important applications for neuroprosthetic control and rehabilitation following stroke or musculoskeletal injuries.
As vice president for research, he:
- Directs a research infrastructure with $1 billion in annual sponsored funding.
- Leads the development and implementation of University-wide strategic plans that support high-impact research efforts.
- Oversees a portfolio of research services and resources delivered by multiple administrative units, including those focused on:
- compliance
- laboratory safety
- research space and core facilities
- animal care
- innovation and technology transfer
- University-wide research institutes and centers
- research IT
- analytics
- diversity, equity and inclusion
