Building a More Efficient IT Infrastructure

The 2016 Northwestern Research Leadership Retreat charged a taskforce with increasing efficiency and managing risk by documenting process handoffs between Research units and external entities (a "swim lanes" analysis). The method dovetailed with the NUIT promotion of Service Oriented Architecture integration. This is a long-term project based on continual delivery. Most recently, web services built between the AALAS learning library, MyHR Learn and eIACUC eliminated duplicate data entry of IACUC required training courses. Integration between the eIRB+ and eDisclosure systems automatically notifies NUCOI of changes to studies involving human participants, reducing timing gaps and minimizing redundant email communication. Both improvements reduce administrative burden thereby contributing to a more efficient Research infrastructure and expediting the initiation of research projects.
